The Lord is our Strength

I’ve been feeling pretty weak the past couple days. I’m learning so many wonderful biblical principals through study and am excited about them, but when it comes to living it out, I’m tending to just flop. Then I feel bad. I know that changing the way I respond to situations is necessary (and much desired!), but the old way just tends to pop right up and take over. Needless to say, I am feeling weak. The scripture below is one that has helped and encouraged me much in the past and I suppose the Lord has plopped it in front of me again.

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him. The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed. O save your people, and bless your heritage; be their shepherd, and carry them forever.
– Psalm 28:7-9

He alone can help me. And the great part is, He desires to be my strength and my shield! However, a key in this passage is, “in Him my heart trusts.” I have to trust Him and believe in His strength and His refuge. Once He shows Himself, I cannot help but praise Him… because it is HIM, not me that helped me make it through whatever situation I may be feeling weak in. HE receives the glory.

I love how the last verse says, “bless your heritage; be their shepherd, and carry them forever.” We can ask God to bless us when we are weak and ask for His strength… to lead us and guide us (how can we lead or make decisions when we are weak… HE is strong!). And to carry us forever. Ahhh… He is truly strong. He will carry us. I love my Savior and my heart chooses to trust in Him today and ask for His help, to count on His strength and His mighty shield. The day has only just begun, and I know there are going to be fiery arrows coming my way.
